Academy for babies, parents and kids

Our acclaimed KindyROO classes are divided into four age-appropriate stages – babies (from 6 weeks up to 12 months), toddlers (1-3 years of age), 3-4 year olds and lastly 4 year olds through to school age. Held weekly, classes usually run for 45 minutes.

Our KindyROO centres follow a definitive routine - so important for child development. Each term is planned over a 10-week period, with a term theme and a weekly topic related to that theme.

Exercises aimed at developing good muscle tone and flexibility, and activities that stimulate the vestibular system, are a key component of the KindyROO program.

Development of visual, auditory and oral skills, alongside a sense of music and rhythm, are important for all ages and are present in each class.

Classes for babies are naturally very different to the toddler classes.

Babies Class (Non Mobile & Crawlers)

The majority of our infant sessions focus on tummy time – designed to allow your child to experience the sensory-motor stimulation needed for learning. Research shows that tummy time is one of the most vital stages of development in helping your child to learn more about themselves and their environment.

The 45 minutes’ quality time spent with your baby will also enable you to learn how best to provide the right activities at home, and give them a head-start on their education.

The classes are graded as non-mobile and mobile (commando crawling and creeping), and cover activities such as massage, auditory activities, movement, gentle exercises, music/rhythm/dance, visual (eye tracking) plus lots more ideas for tummy time.

Toddler Class

We cover various areas of development throughout the term - gross motor and fine motor. The sessions adhere to a routine for your child, as well as presenting some challenges throughout the term.

A 45 minute class will typically include:

  • Mat time: The parents and children are invited to sit on the mat together as a group and sing a hello song. Small equipment skills (balls etc), exercises, massage and a dance will follow. Each exercise is shown and clearly explained to enable you to do the same at home. Mat sessions also feature our special ‘treasure bag time’, which follows the selected theme for the term. This is important for language, social interaction, tactile experiences, imagination, and reinforces the word of the week which is quickly flashed to your child. This stimulates memory and pre-reading skills, and the children love it.
  • Equipment time:This gives your child the chance to explore, and to practice and develop new skills. Older children will enjoy the challenge of following the circuit and practising new movement exercises.
  • Music time:The session concludes with music and parachute time. Each week we provide a musical instrument to play and dance with, and we introduce our colourful parachute for the children to lie under or play games with. Lying under the parachute induces a quietness, with the children calming down in readiness for goodbye. Finally, everyone sings our traditional goodbye song, before heading home.

‘Possum’ Class (3-4 year olds)

This class differs significantly from the toddler programmes. At this age the brain has completed one of the most important stages of development – known as integration. Without this, reading and writing can become very difficult and can mean intelligent children have difficulty learning at school.

  • Mat time: The children in this age group work independently from their parents for part of the class, and with their parents for the more challenging activities. The activities focus on memory skills, sequencing, relays, dance routines, throwing, catching, hitting - as well as other physical skills which get the brain ready for learning at school.
  • Equipment time:The children are given special activities on the equipment, each designed to challenge them.
  • Music time:The session finishes with music, rhythm and parachute games. The focus is on activities which promote thinking and moving at the same time, to ensure that the physical skills are pushed into the automatic part of the brain leaving the children free to think and process while they are active. The music we use was written and recorded using rhythms appropriate to the children’s ability to listen, reproduce and move to the beat.

School Readiness Classes

  • Mat time: In this age group the children work independently from their parents, asking for help should they need extra guidance during the lesson. Many of the activities are undertaken in pairs or in small groups, which foster social skills and cooperation - as well as the physical skills which prepare the brain for learning at school. Treasure bag time is still an important part of this programme.
  • Equipment time:The children are given specific challenges in order to promote motor planning and develop essential skills.
  • Music time:The session wraps up with music, rhythm and parachute games. There’s loads of fun and laughter to be had as each challenge is completed in every child’s unique and often comical style.
